Transitioning Your Favourite Summer Wardrobe Pieces Into Autumn

This can be a tough one to crack. But with today’s Summer to Fall (or Autumn) dressing tips, hopefully you will be able to get some more wear out of your favourite Summer Clothes whilst the weather begins to get colder and the hours of sunlight shorter.

According to the astronomical calendar, Fall (Autumn) officially begins on the 22nd of September in the Northern Hemisphere this year. But with our current unpredictable weather being anything to go by – one minute its hot, the next cold and wet – you will hopefully be able to continue wearing your favourite Summer pieces up until November, if we’re lucky. And here are five tips to help you out.

1

Mix Your Favourite Summer Wardrobe items With New Fall Additions To Your Wardrobe.

Here I am wearing one of my favourite Summer dresses from Chicwish, which I have styled with my new fall wardrobe addition: a bell sleeved ribbed polo neck top from H&M.

2

Layer, layer and layer some more.

Layering is one of my favourite tips for transitioning your Summer looks for Fall. Today’s outfit is the perfect example, layering a Summer dress over a jumper. And it is so easy to do. Whether you layer underneath or layer over the top with various shirts, jumpers and jackets. This is the easiest way to transform your Summer outfits for Autumn.

Try and drag out an open toe shoe look for as long as possible, until you have to give into boots weather. Alternatively: put a sock on it.

I LOVE these new Aquazzura dupe sandals that I am wearing – which are only btw. So, this year I will be trying to keep my toes out for as long as possible to wear these and my Summer Isabel Marant and Chloe shoe purchases to get my moneys worth out of them.

4

Mix Autumnal Hues with Summer Brights To Make Them Winter Ready.

Burgundy is an obvious Autumnal hue for Fall, which actually contrasts the red of my dress really well. Other colours (according to the Pantone Fall chart for AW16) you can start mixing with your Summer outfits to transition them for fall include: blue skies, earthy tones, spicy mustards, warm reds, pinkish purples and pops of vivid teal green.

5

Add in new season trends and accessories.

To make your favourite Summer wardrobe pieces Fall fashion ready, add in some of the latest trends for the new season. For example, to update my Summer dress I have worn aviator glasses, bell sleeves and pom pom shoes! For more information on the biggest fashion trends for Autumn I would recommend reading Elle’s guide here.
