THE MASTER CLEANSE LEMON DETOX DIET
You may have heard about that one time Beyonce lost a shed load of weight for her role in Dream Girls. Well, this miraculous weight loss of apparently 20lbs in less than two weeks is said to have been achieved via the Master Cleanse diet. When I was contacted by Slimming Solutions to ask if I would like to trial any of their products, I was intrigued as to whether or not the Master Cleanse maple syrup diet actually worked and I was keen to give it a go.
My Master Cleanse Detox Diet Experience
Going for the hardcore approach I set myself out to drink this concoction or natural tree syrup, lemon juice, water and cayenne pepper for seven days straight, alongside herbal teas and a nasty laxative tea that was also provided. The aim of the cleanse is to clean out your system, with weight loss just being one of the added benefits. As I have slowly been cutting down my caffeine and sugar intake, in preparation for a cellulite free body for my wedding abroad next year, I am forever trying the latest cleanse or diet fads to see if they actually work, so here is what I found from my Master Cleanse experience.
The Master Cleanse Drink
I was actually pleasantly surprised that on my first taste, I enjoyed drinking the maple syrup, lemon and cayenne pepper concoction. But, then again, I do have a HUGE sweet tooth and mostly, this just tastes like licking syrup off a cake mix spoon. By the end of the cleanse I was actually craving the drink itself and have had one or two since finishing my cleanse.
The Evening ‘Laxative’ Tea
As the aim of the cleanse is to ‘clear out’ your system, the addition of a laxative tea is said to clear the rubbish from your body that the lemon cleanse drink picks up from your insides, but can have trouble leaving. To put it lightly, the taste of the tea is on the repugnant side, as are it’s side effects. If you are not a fan of the tea, I would suggest trying to drink as MUCH water as possible to flush everything out of your system.
The Hunger Pains and Cravings
The first two days were the worst as I had huge hunger pains and ‘Hangry’ moments, alongside the odd ‘dizzy’ spell. Miraculously, on the third day I woke up to find that I no longer had hunger cravings, but these had been taken over by food cravings instead. And, I am not going to lie. I did have chocolate two nights on the trot – albeit dark chocolate, so I didn’t feel as naughty – plus, I may have snuck at least one glass of red wine in there too, I just couldn’t resist the temptation of the bottle starting at me in the kitchen after a grueling day of fighting off thoughts of all my favourite foods imaginable.

The Results
Despite cheating slightly on my Master Cleanse lemon detox diet, after the seven days were over I stepped on the scale to find that I had lost 6lbs in total (although I am guessing a lot of this was water weight), I still had my sanity in tact (just about) and my stomach was the flattest it has been for a while. Having said that, the day following we were at a wedding surrounded by Indian food and lots of drinks and diving straight back into eating as much as possible (as I was FINALLY allowed food), lets just say I was a little worse for wear afterwards. So if you are also taking on a detox I would recommend weening your way back into your eating habits (as the accompanying book suggests)
All in all, the Master Cleanse maple syrup and lemon detox diet kickstarted off my ‘healthy’ mindset and although I went a bit crazy at the wedding when it finished, I have since been keeping up a healthier lifestyle of swapping teas and coffees for herbal alternatives, opting for dark chocolate if I fancy something sweet and upping protein and greens content in each of my meals. So, if you are looking for a way to rid your body of toxins before embarking on a healthier lifestyle, then I would definitely recommend trying the Master Cleanse diet, should you think you have the patience and £80 to pay for the pleasure of testing your will power.
