How Taking A Break Boosted My Productivity & Creativity
Happy 2017 guys! I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and New Year. I don’t know about you, but by the end of 2016 life got a little bit hectic and I needed to recharge my batteries. For those of you who don’t yet know, in the middle of November I had a nose job – you can watch my videos on this here and here. Sat here writing this post it is now 6 weeks since my operation and I finally feel myself. I feel human again.
I took a week out for bed rest after my operation, but during most of this time I was drugged up on pain killers and not sleeping. Having to sleep sitting up and not being able to breath through my nose, I was getting 2-3 hours sleep a night, if I was lucky. On my 2nd week I was back to work, but working from home – that is the beauty of having a job online. Then on my 3rd week I was back in the office, as if I had never been off.
Then Christmas came and I needed a break. This is actually the first time I have looked at my emails and logged into my WordPress in over a week, which is probably the longest it has been in a few years. Even when I was getting married and on honeymoon in 2016, I still kept tabs on my emails!
Having a somewhat digital detox, switching my mind off from worrying about my blog and upcoming projects. I have spent the Christmas break enjoying time with family, friends and Brody my lurcher. For example, the shots here were taken on a walk down to my Mum’s on the 27th for our third Christmas dinner. So apart from 5 minutes in front of the camera, the rest of the day I took a break and just enjoyed life.

After Taking A Break
I felt refreshed
My mind had rested and was ready to be challenged again.
I felt revived
My body nourished from the sleep I had finally caught up with.
I reflected
On what was making me stressed and taking up my time.
I prioritised
What would be important for 2017 and how to find the perfect balance.
I was inspired
With new ideas that I will be bringing to the table in 2017.
I was motivated
To reach my goals and shoot for the stars.
I was confident
That myself and my content is actually worth something and I can do this!
The Importance of Taking A Break
For anyone else struggling with stress, lack of sleep and zero motivation. Or you have lost the creative spark that gets you excited. Take a break now! Don’t feel guilty, even if it is just as short as taking a night out, switching off from the world and hiding in the bath for a few hours with an inspiring book and a glass of wine. We all need a little rest and relaxation from time to time, so don’t forget that. Make looking after yourself a priority in 2017 and remember the importance of taking a break!
