The New Knitwear Rules

Although I am a sun worshipper at heart, nothing fills me with more delight than when the leaves start to brown and fall from their trees and my knitwear collection is unpacked from the attic as I rotate my wardrobe offering from Spring / Summer to Autumn / Winter. Which is a seasonal ritual of mine that I need to factor some time in for ASAP.

Knitwear is cosy, warm and comfortable. It hides a multitude of sins, including food babies and opting for Winter snuggles on the sofa, rather than burning calories in the gym. Knitwear is also the ultimate layering piece and this year knitwear is a style statement too!

It looks as though knitted two pieces – such as this lovely Lavish Alice knitwear culottes and tunic set that I am wearing in this post – are going nowhere and that knitwear has been taken to the max with frills, cut outs and a whole lot of sass this Autumn / Winter.

Knitwear Trends AW16

Whether you are deciding what knitwear to revive in your wardrobe for the new season, or are looking to invest in some on trend pieces. Below is a run through of the top knitwear fashion trends for Autumn / Winter 2016-2017.

Ruffled Knitwear

As you have probably seen from the latest trend issues of your favourite magazines to shopping in your favourite stores, frills are everywhere for Autumn / Winter and knitwear is no exception. Get your frill on with these fantastically frilled jumpers from Topshop, River Island and Boohoo.

Bell Sleeves

If you saw my H&M frill / bell sleeves haul video (Watch here), you will have seen the best high street store to get your knitted bell sleeve fix from. But, if you are looking to spend a little more on luxury cashmere knitwear with bell sleeves, then I would highly recommend this staple turtleneck from Revolve.

Backless Knitwear

The new sexy is to show off your back with backless knitwear, which is something I am sure Justin Timberlake will be pleased about ladies. It also goes in favour for small chested ladies (like myself) as at least I get to show off one asset that I have as your back does all the talking on this occasion. I blogged about this amazing backless jumper at the end of July – read the blog post here – and have found this affordable everyday version on ASOS here.

The Knitted Skirt

If you didn’t jump on the knitted skirt trend last Autumn / Winter, now is the perfect time to test the trend. Knitted skirts have a bit more sass on the high street this season, for example this Topshop Boutique knitted skirt or River Island Studio skirt are not ones to be missed if you want to look on trend or fashion forward. Paired with a pair of trainers, ankle or over the knee boots or a killer pair of heels, these can be styled for both daytime and evening looks.

Knitted Co-Ords

Last year I loved the introduction of knitted sets that many high street retailers began selling. Not only are they the most comfortable outfits going, I also think that they look super cool too. My Lavish Alice two piece is available in both blue and white and ASOS have a great knitted co-ord selection on their site here too.
