HOW TO KEEP BLEACHED HAIR IN GOOD CONDITION
If you bleach your hair then you most definitely need to be looking after your locks to make sure that they are kept in the best condition possible. Bleaching strips your hair of it’s natural oils and if your hair is not looked after properly, whilst and after bleaching, your hair will become dry and laden with split ends. Or even worse, it could snap off!
You also need to make sure that you bleach your hair safely – if doing a DIY job – and that you go for regular trims when bleaching your hair. You may have noticed that I recently went platinum blonde (see how I achieved this here), so below are five tips I have been following for keeping bleached hair in good condition and restoring moisture to repair any damage…
USE A PURPLE TONING SHAMPOO TO REMOVE UNWANTED BRASSY TONES
When going blonde, 5 times out of 10, at some point your hair will get some brassy tones through it. This is especially true if you go for a platinum blonde and you may find that purple toning shampoo quickly becomes your best friend. Try not to use with every wash, as this could turn your hair violet or dry out your hair, but definitely use at least once or twice a week (depending how often you wash your hair…maybe try every other wash if washing your hair every 2-3 days like me). The Dumb Blonde Purple Toning shampoo from Bed Head by TIGI is great for neutralising brassy tones and this product doesn’t dry my hair our either, which is why I love it.
INVEST IN AN INTENSE CONDITIONING TREATMENT
As bleached hair requires a little extra TLC, you should make sure that you use an intensive conditioning or repair treatment at least once a week. This will help to re-add moisture to dry locks, repair split ends and depending on what products you choose, restore the keratin in your hair – as this is what strengthens it. Recently I have been using the TIGI S Factor ‘Serious’ Conditioner, which includes sunflower seed oil to provide intense moisture. I love to use this product during my weekly bath and I pop my hair on the top of my head with a clip and leave for around 10-20 minutes to work it’s magic. Afterwards my hair feels so luxuriously soft and silky!
PROTECT YOUR COLOUR
AVOID TOO MUCH HEAT STYLING
One key step to keeping bleached hair in tip top condition, is to try and minimise heat styling as much as possible. Try to leave your hair to air dry when you can and instead of reaching for the straighteners why not just settle for a blow dry or leave your hair in plaits whilst damp for a wavy look? Below is a great step to follow when not using heat styling to also achieve a sleek and smooth hairstyle.
SMOOTH THOSE FLY AWAY’S & SPLIT ENDS
To keep your blonde hairstyle looking sleek and silky you should be using a finishing product to help minimise any fly away’s and split ends. As well as being in love with the colour of it’s pink packaging, TIGI Bed Head’s After Party Smoothing Creme is a lightweight product that smooths fly away’s and split ends whilst preventing frizz.
