Are Padded Jackets Fashionable?
The Padded Jacket Debate
Whether or not a padded jacket looks fashionable is something I have questioned myself. For me, a padded jacket is a daily staple in autumn/winter for walking Brody – my rescued lurcher cross wolfhound – in the chilly mornings at 6am and after work. My usual go to that I grab pre-coffee is a waterproof North Face padded coat, complete with hood and faux fur trim. This definitely does the trick for keeping me warm and dry, but it isn’t a piece that I would deem ‘fashionable’.
Saying that, since 2016 the puffer jacket and padded coat trend has gone from strength to strength. And is now often seen gracing the pages of Vogue, rather than being an exclusive trend for avid walkers and dog owners (You can see how I have styled a padded jacket in previous blog posts here, here and here as evidence in my case) and for autumn/winter 2017 the popularity of the puffer jacket seems to be on the rise.
Previously I have only ever featured short padded jackets on lurchhoundloves.com, so for today’s post I wanted to challenge myself to style a long-line padded jacket. In the hopes of proving that puffer coats can be fashionable, right?

STYLING THE PUFFER JACKET
This was shot on a Sunday afternoon, a day that I typically wear my ‘comfy-casual’ clothes. The puffer jacket I am styling is from non other than Boohoo and is only £50. TBH they have the best range of padded jackets priced £50 and under, you can view all of their padded coats here.
TOP TIP: Boohoo currently have 30% off on the site as a Black Friday warm up with code: GOGOGO (At the time of this post going live) and they will continue to have discounts across the Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend!
I think that the discreet poppers and tie detail make this padded jacket tres chic and also adds a high end vibe. As well as being super affordable this coat is also comfortable and versatile, from walking the dog to visiting the Manchester Christmas markets or heading to work, you will be snug as a bug in a padded jacket wearing this!
To help you hunt down your perfect padded jacket to be fashionable in this autumn/winter I have picked my favourites from the high street below and put them into two categories: padded jackets under £100 and £50 & under. Happy Shopping, you can thank me later 🙂
