10 Ways To Lift Your Mood When You Feel Blue
Want to get high from a ‘Debbie Downer’?
I’m talking a mood boost here, rather than a trip to Amsterdam, sorry guys! If you read my post – Overcoming Self Doubt – you may have picked up that I have been feeling down about my creative efforts lately and don’t have my usual enthusiastic drive for blogging. Which, to be honest, I am not entirely sure where this ‘CBA’ attitude came from.
CBA Definition: “Can’t Be Arsed”. Unwilling to expend energy on the task in hand. May be used more generally in reference to the state of mind where nothing at all seems remotely worth doing.
To boost my morale, lift my spirits and get back my mojo I have been looking into ways you can lift your mood when you are feeling down. So, I thought I would share my favourites with you today. For anyone else who is having a pity party or generally not feeling themselves.
1. Get Some Zzzzzz’s
Aim to get 8-10 hours of sleep per night. A good night’s sleep does the whole world of good to get up and at em!
2. Put Your Phone Down
Switch your phone off for a few hours. Shut that laptop. Step away from social media. We can consume too much time on our phones, so have a mobile detox for a few hours every evening.
3. Stop Obsessing
OK, this is harder than it sounds. But, obsessions are not healthy so try not to get hung up on or beat yourself up about something that you’ve done or has / hasn’t happened.
4. Write ‘To Do’ Lists
To stop getting anxiety from making a list of 10,000 things you need to do in your head. Sit and put pen to paper and write down a ‘to do’ list for the day or week ahead.
5. Sweat it out
Exercise releases endorphins, which = a happier you!
6. Get Lost In Colour
Not just for children, adult colouring books are a great way to de-stress and find your happy place. This in particular activity, definitely calms me down.
7. Eat Healthy
To be happier it is not only your mind you need to nourish, but also your body! Eating healthy will add good nutrients to your diet rather than binge eating or crying over a tub of fried chicken or a colossal chocolate sharing bar for one!
8. Do Something Independently #onyourown
I made a concious decision the other week to try and tackle taking my own photos. With my tripod in tow I headed out solo to shoot some outfits (including this one). They turned out pretty well I think and given me a boost back into my blogging, I also feel like I don’t have to nag my other half to take shots for me. But anyway, there is more to come on shooting my own blog photos in Thursday’s upcoming post!
9. Treat Yourself
Have you been debating over that pair of shoes or recently added a new IT bag to your wish list. Go and buy yourself it, or set a saving goal to buy your dream item. Or, just get a new haircut or makeover, whatever you feel like treating yourself to, which will boost your confidence and get you smiling again!
10. Take Some Time Out
If you have lost your blogging mojo, inspiration, passion or just feel damn right bogged down with work load. Take a mini break from blogging. Trust me, you will feel refreshed and inspired once you are back to your normal self.
Of course, it takes one step at a time to figure out why you aren’t feeling yourself and what you need to change to get back to ‘YOU’. But, hopefully some of the 10 ways to lift your mood when you are feeling blue above will help to get you smiling again.
